COCO

Coco was a retired breeder dog that we'd had in our rescue a couple of years. Sadly, Coco developed a cancerous tumor next to her right canine tooth. Our vet said that chances of the cancer being elsewhere in her body were great, and we chose to not put her through a surgery where a large part of her lower jaw would be removed, and her lifespan would still be cut short. This was diagnosed in October 2022, and we chose to keep her here and love and spoil her for the remainder of her days. Mid October of 2023 the growth started growing rapidly. Her eyes had clouded, and she started declining in being a happy girl. She was 13 years old. We sent her to the Bridge November 9th, 2023. Run free of pain, sweet Coco. We loved you -

Queenie

ADOPTED and living in MO! Queenie is a gold and white Shih Tzu that will be 8 in October 2023. She's a retired breeder dog, so she will need help learning how to be a wonderful member of a family in a home. Queenie is very sweet and we think will be a fast learner. She has an old cataract on her right eye, but our vet said there's no care needed at this time. She is quick to go out in the back yard and do her business, and she sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She's great with the other dogs of all different breeds/sizes in our house.

BRIAN

Sadly, Brian's legs just wore out. He traveled to the Rainbow Bridge on 10/20/23. He was 14 years old and a former commercial breeder dog. He came to us in 2019 and was a sassy old Maltese man, loving to nip the back of your calves to get extra attention.

Lucy

ADOPTED along with Bert and living in the St. Louis, MO area! Lucy is a grey and white, 9 year old Shih Tzu. She weighs almost 10 pounds and came to us as a retired breeder dog, Spring 2022. She's trying to get the routine down, but she's a bit nervous with being handled and trusting people, so someone with patience would be a great fit with this little girl. She has not had any leash training so needs a securely fenced yard. Lucy gets along with all the other dogs here of different breeds and sizes.

BERT

ADOPTED along with Lucy! Bert is a 7 1/2 year old Shih Tzu weighting about 13#. He's got longer legs than most Shih Tzu's we've seen. Bert needs a special home that is willing to continue to work with him. He's a retired breeder and had NEVER been around men before coming here. He is very leery of being handled and would prefer to just come out of his crate and run to the yard to do his business. We are working on him coming back in the house door and when back in will run directly to his crate. He now is comfortable with me picking him up, and we've been practicing with him being on my lap while watching TV and such with my husband nearby. He is definitely a work in progress, but there may be someone that is drawn to him that would be willing to continue the bonding process in his Forever Home rather than here in foster care.

GINGER

ADOPTED in the St. Louis, MO area! Ginger is a red/white Pembroke Welsh Corgi that is 2 years old. Her vetting has been completed, and she's ready to find her own home. Corgis are HERDING DOGS, and Ginger has that strong instinct. She would not be good with small, fluffy dogs as she tries to boss them around, not meaning to hurt them, but she is 30 pounds. She keeps her wire crate clean, and she's close to being house trained. Ginger needs a fenced yard where she can RUN and chase balls and burn off her energy. Another Corgi or dog her size would be a great aid in her learning how to be a great member of your family.

BOBBIN

ADOPTED and living in the St. Louis, MO area! This young Shih Tzu girl came to us after flunking as a breeder dog. She's ready to move on and try being a member of her own family! Bobbin was named for a woman who along with her husband had very big hearts, adopting multiple dogs from us. She also loved to quilt! Bobbin has completed her vetting and is ready to be adopted. She'll need help with house training but keeps her crate dry at night. She would like another dog in the home to help teach her how to be a family pet, and she requests it be a small dog like her that can also play with her!

2022

Sophie

Adopted and living just blocks from us!  We called Sophie the little white fluffy dog. She's 4 years old and about 9 pounds but seems smaller. We were confused at what breed she is, so we did a DNA test and found she's 47% Chihuahua, 31%Poodle, and 5% Westie, with a little bit more of a number of other small breeds.  She's a quiet dog until she's outside and ready to zoom and burn off some of her Chihuahua energy! She's not a snuggler, but we're working on that. Looking for a cute little thing? Sophie may be the girl for you!

MERCI

ADOPTED AND LIVING IN MO! Merci is a tiny 5# white Poodle recently retired from the life of motherhood. She is a happy, sweet little thing who enjoys being cuddled and getting attention. Merci will need someone willing to help her with her house training, but she's doing a great job following a routine in her foster home and keeping her area clean. She is seven years old, and we're sure she won't be in foster care long!

YETI

ADOPTED AND LIVING IN MO! This golden colored Shih Tzu girl is named Yeti! She's a retired breeder and is 6 years old. You'd never know her age - she enjoys playing with any of the other dogs here like she's a puppy. Her tail is always wagging, and she's enjoying learning how to be a member of a family.

MORK

Adopted and living in the St. Louis, MO area with his partner Mindy! Mork is an eight year old former breeder male that made his way into our rescue. He is still learning how to be a member of a family, living in a house. He loves his partner Mindy, and we hope they will be adopted together.

Mindy

ADOPTED with Mork and living in the St. Louis, MO area! Mindy is a petite little former breeder female that made her way out of that life and into our rescue. She's full of energy and would love to stay with her partner Mork.

Suzi-Q

Adopted and living in KS with her Scottie brother! This wheaten brindle Cairn girl is a retired breeder. She's sweet and ready to learn how to be a member of a family. We know she won't be here long!

MAYZI

Traveled to the Rainbow Bridge 7/14/22. Mayzi was an 11 year old Cafe Au Lait colored Mini Poodle who was retired to us in May 2020. She must have been a wonderful momma as she'd pulled hair out to nest with her litters until she had permanent hair loss in spots.  She was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure at her first exam, and as she aged, her medication increased as her disease progressed. She was a quiet girl who asked for little. Sadly, she became weak and showed signs of being in pain, so we let her go.

DAISY

ADOPTED AND LIVING IN INDIANA! Daisy is an 8 year old Wheaten Cairn Terrier who was recently retired from breeding and is now learning how to be a member of a family.

PANDORA

ADOPTED AND LIVING IN INDIANA! Pandora is a 7.5 year old black brindle Cairn Terrier. She was recently retired from breeding and is now learning how to be a member of a family.

2021

In spite of the continuation of COVID 19 and its complications, we had 3 adoptions!

Marlo

ADOPTED and living with her mom and two fur siblings in MO! 1/4/21 We are giving Marlo drops in both eyes for possible dry eye. She seems to have a lot of discharge, and these thick oily drops really make a difference. She's a very quiet girl that requires little attention, preferring to be off on her own or in her crate, so she's really an easy dog to have in the home. She does well doing her business outside, but she does not come when called so must be picked up and carried in. We do think her sight is diminishing in both eyes.  INITIAL INTRO 6/9/20 Marlo is a 9#, eight year old Shih Tzu. She has had her vetting completed and is ready for adoption. Marlo is cream in color and still a bit skittish. She will need a family with patience in helping her learn to trust people and live in a home. She is still very much a work in progress. She would do best with another dog to help show her what fun it is to be a member of a family. Marlo has a cataract in her left eye and can probably only see shapes with that eye.

Sonja

ADOPTED and living in IL with her new mom! This sweet little thing is Sonja, a 7.5 year old Miniature Schnauzer. We were told she's Salt & Pepper in color, but she's mainly light silver/cream colored. Sonja is a former breeder dog and is adjusting well to being in a home and part of our pack. She was a bit shy when she first arrived, but she is now enjoying getting skritches and keeping her crate clean. She's had her vaccinations, dental, spay, HW negative and normal blood panel, and she's ready to be learning the rest of being in a family with her own family. She weighs about 14# now after gaining a little after coming to us. Sonja will need a fenced yard where she's quick to get her business done as she's had no leash training yet. If you are interested in adopting Sonja, please complete our application as we don't think she'll be with us long once we post her to Adoptapet.

JOCK

ADOPTED and living in South Carolina with a sister his size named Mattie! Jock is a 6 year old retired breeder Cairn Terrier. He's a sweet boy, eager to learn about life in a home. He's getting along great with all the other dogs here of various sizes and breeds and is doing well with his house training. He's a quiet boy and has learned the routine here quickly.

2020

We had 13 adoptions and 2 Forever Foster Angels at the Bridge in 2020.

Starsky

ADOPTED TOGETHER AND LIVING IN A LONGTIME CAIRN LOVING HOME IN MO! HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2020! Starsky and Hutch are one year old Cairn Terrier brothers looking for a home. We have determined they would be fine together again or separated. They are small Cairns but full of energy and play. The boys are getting along with dogs of all sizes, but we have recently determined that CATS are seen as prey, sending them into a frenzy. They enjoy snuggling and giving kisses once they have used up their energy.

Hutch

Madonna

ADOPTED WITH BONO AND LIVING IN THE STL AREA! UPDATE 9/30/19 Madonna is still here, much to our surprise. She's turned into a beautiful little girl. She and Bono have become quite the pair - they play wrestle great together since Tina was adopted. They would be a cute pair to have together! UPDATE 5/23/19 Madonna and Tina are enjoying each other's company, so another tiny dog that likes to play, or adopting Tina at the same time would really be a plus for Madonna's new home. She is very timid and would run from us at first. She now knows we are her friend and will allow us to pick her up. She is not house trained and cannot walk on a leash. Her trips outside are to an exercise pen where we can make sure we can pick her up - in a fenced yard she would run and hide. She's a playful little girl and will need someone with patience as she continues to learn about being a member of a family and learning to trust and potty outside. We do not adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 - this is a tiny little dog that could easily get hurt jumping out of arms or being underfoot. She needs a home that will be patient and allow her to continue to adjust to life outside of a breeding environment.Madonna the Chihuahua is a breeder release. She is all white except for smudges of grey/tan on her ears. Madonna had her first birthday last week and is a tiny girl, weighing only a little over 4 pounds. We are working on adding some weight to her bony torso. She has completed her vetting (the yellow on her tummy is staining from the antiseptic used during her spay a few days ago) and is ready to find the perfect family that can work with her and help her to understand that people and a home are a great place to be.

Bono

ADOPTED WITH MADONNA AND LIVING IN THE STL AREA! UPDATE 9/30/19 Bono has had lookers, but no one has been the right fit. He's a sweet little guy and loves attention. We're not sure why no one has snatched this guy up! He's been neutered and is just waiting for his Forever home to find him! He's a playful little guy, and he and Madonna would be a great pair to be adopted together as they really get along well. UPDATE 5/23/19 Bono is 8 months old Chi and has had his vetting completed. He's a submissive little boy that rolls over when you are picking him up. He's learning to play and likes to greet Oh Henry the Beagle and the 2 Chi girls here, Madonna and Tina. They run and play tag and act squirrelly! He does his business outside in an exercise  pen but is not housetrained. He enjoys a quick cuddle but still does not know what to think of much attention from a human, but he is learning and will adjust quickly in a home with other little dogs to help teach him that life in a home is great! Are you the right family to help this little guy learn to accept love? UPDATE 4/3/19. Bono will be having his neuter on 4/8 and will be ready for adoption once he's had a few days to heal. He still needs help with house training, but he's loving to cuddle with a human. Bono is a 5 month old black and white Chihuahua recently released from a breeder. He is wanting to trust people and play, but he's still a bit shy. He weighs seven pounds so is going to be a sturdy little guy!

liza Jane

ADOPTED and living in the STL area! Liza Jane is a Yorkie, almost 2 years old, and has LOTS of energy! She is keeping her exercise pen clean, and she's quick to get her business done in our fenced back yard. She has had her initial vetting exam and is awaiting her spay and dental that is scheduled for 2/7. She has no leash experience and is very much a busy girl that will need supervision and help learning how to be a member of a family as she is new to being in a home.  She loves to ZOOM!

brody

ADOPTED and living in MI with his brother Dylan, who was adopted a year ago! Brody is a 12 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He's a sweet boy who loves attention and shows his excitement by "chomping" his teeth! He's had his vetting updated with  vaccinations and a dental and is ready for a home of his own. He sleeps quietly in his crate and gets along great with all the other dogs here. He also walks great on a leash. We're sure this boy won't be around long - get your application in today!

rio

ADOPTED and living in the St. Louis area!  After two years in foster care, she's in her own home again! 3/5/20 Rio is STILL here, waiting for her Forever family to see her. PLEASE SHARE! 1/23/19 UPDATE - Rio is still waiting for a home. She's a big dog but very sweet. Not good with children. She's an indoor dog. LOVES to go for walks and LOVES to be combed out. PLEASE consider adopting RIO! Rio is a five year old shepherd mix. She is about 50 pounds and has just had a dental and her vetting updated. We have sent in a DNA test to see if we can determine what her "mix" is. Rio needs a home with no small children as they make her very nervous. She loves her people and can be a bit protective of them. Rio walks great on a leash, sleeps quietly in her kennel, is very smart and knows, sit and shake and will tell you when she needs to go out. She has been selective about which dogs she likes, so a home where she is the only dog would probably be best unless she meets any prospective fur siblings to determine if they will get along. She is quite the clown - happy all the time and her pictures do not do her justice. She loves to be combed, and her coat is thick and silky. Could she be the perfect companion for you?

UPDATE 1/27/18 THE DNA RESULTS ARE IN! Rio the Shepherd mix's results came back as 37.5% as Mixed Breed Group of Terrier/Sporting/Companion, 25% Cocker Spaniel, and 12.5% each of Chow, German Shepherd, and Siberian Husky. She has the coloring of the Shepherd, the curly tail of the Chow, the double coat of the Husky, and the beautiful eyes of the Cocker Spaniel! UPDATE 7/1/18 This big girl is such a sweetheart. She just wants a home where she can be Queen of her castle. She loves getting skritches and attention from her people. She's house trained and crate trained and will go to the door to let you know she wants to go out. Rio LOVES being brushed and rolls on her side when she sees you pick up her brush. She does need an adult only home. Do you like to take walks? Rio might be a great companion for you!

Stewart

Adopted and living in NM!  Crossed the Rainbow Bridge 6/23/21  UPDATE 5/3/20 - Stewart's ear is all healed up and he's ready for his own home! He will be having his 8th birthday 5/25 and would like to celebrate it with a newly adopted family! UPDATE 4/15/20 - Stewart developed a hematoma on his left ear. He had surgery yesterday to drain it and is back in his foster home and doing great. He will need the stitches they used to tack the area down to prevent it from refilling out in 10 days. We also asked about his rear left leg that has been weak since he arrived, and they x-rayed it and found he has an old femoral head injury, a fracture of the Acetabulam that has caused him to have arthritis in that hip. So now we know what is causing him to sometimes carry that leg. INITIAL INTRO -  (Rod) Stewart is a West Highland Terrier that joined us this Fall 2019! He is 7 years old and enjoying life in a home! He has quickly learned that a dry belly band makes his foster mom very happy! He has had his vetting completed and is ready for someone with Westie experience to spot this boy and make him a member of their family. Stewart is learning that skritches are heavenly and make him groan with joy. He gets along with the other dogs here as long as they respect his personal space (not good with puppies who want to pounce on him).  He's got the cutest little skip to his step when he's first out in the yard  - just don't ever think to have the camera in hand!

Elton

ADOPTED and living in the  STL area! Elton is a 9 year old retired Shih Tzu male. He's a beautiful golden color, and he is a very easy dog to have in the house. He is wearing a belly band, but he is keeping it dry. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night. He's been fully vetted and has dry eye which requires inexpensive drops in each eye twice daily. He gets along with all the other dogs and does not act like a senior - he recently has decided to play with the Chuck-It balls in the yard!

Margie

ADOPTED and living in Missouri!  Margie is a 9.5 year old cream colored Shih Tzu. She's a sweet girl and learning quickly how nice life in a home and family can be. She's still very much a work in progress, but we feel she's able to learn the skills needed from her Forever Family as she bonds with them. She is doing well keeping her crate dry and doing her business outside. She has had NO leash training so would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She gets along well with all the other dogs here, and her vetting has been completed. Her tail is constantly wagging - she's even play-bowing in her excitement of coming into the house without being carried in!

Oh Henry

ADOPTED and living in MO! UPDATE 3/5/20 Oh Henry is waiting patiently for a family with enough love in their hearts to take on a special needs dog. It doesn't cost anything to complete an application and come meet this boy to decide if you are the right person to love him forever! 11/20/19 UPDATE - Oh Henry had his third Echocardiogram  yesterday, and he has been CLEARED by the Cardiologist of having nutritional DCM! You can imagine how happy this makes us!  Three of his 4 measurements were in the normal range, and the 4th is so very close that she  believes in a couple more weeks it will be, too! He is now ready for adoption! 9/1/19 UPDATE - Oh Henry had a followup Echocardiogram in August and two of the 4 measurements they take are now in the NORMAL range, with the other 2 measurements having improvement!  This definitely tells us that nutritional DCM was the correct diagnosis! The Cardiologist wants us to come back in 3 months for another Echo, and she believes at that time we will be able to remove him from the medications he's been taking and he will be found to be free from DCM. Please stay tuned - we hope we get an early Christmas present with his next assessment and he can be released for adoption. 3/18/19 Henry has had some health issues in the last few weeks, leading us to do x-rays, finding he has pneumonia after his neuter, but even more scary, an enlarged heart. He saw a Cardiologist today and had an Echocardiogram, which  brought the diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy, likely diet-related. We have been sent home with meds and a change to a non grain-free food and are awaiting a special blood test that takes 10 days for the results to be processed. The specialist believes we should see improvement in 3 months and possible reversible in 6 months, so this is GREAT news for a heart issue! We will discuss more about this diagnosis once we have the results of the blood test as we want all the info to verify we know what we are talking about. Henry the tri-colored Beagle came to us via a rescue angel who saved his pregnant momma from a hoarding situation. Henry was different that his siblings - his head bobbed and he had trouble staying upright on his feet. We quickly knew he was a Special Needs boy. Oh, Henry is what we would repeat multiples times a day as he moved about. tumbling and hitting the floor. I wish they made little padded soft helmets for dogs like him, as his head thumping on a tile floor makes us cringe. We quickly realized he was much like Loca the Irish Pug who has videos on Youtube. Oh, Henry has Cerebellar Hypoplasia - the Cerebellum part of his brain did not grow properly, and it is the part of the brain that controls motor function. When he eats, his head makes quick movements, and he is a messy eater, food flying in every direction as he gobbles his kibble down. Same with getting a drink - his surroundings are showered as he bobs and dips into his water bowl. We observed him for months as he's grown and gained strength and control over his wild body movements. We at first thought a set of wheels might be needed, but this little guy has been amazing in his determination to stay upright and move about where he wants to go! He almost prances with those front feet high in the air as he makes his way about. He will always tumble, so a home with NO STEPS required of him is necessary. He knows he isn't sure footed and doesn't even like to try them for fear of falling.  We have two small height steps that he will go up, but he chooses to not try to go down them because he doesn't have the motor skills to do so. Other dogs don't know what to think of his strange movements, so we will need to meet any future siblings to determine if they can love him for who he is. He loves to go on an adventure outside on a walk on a leash. A nap on a human just makes him smile. He's still working on house training - I think sometimes his strange, stretched out positions makes him empty his bladder at times he doesn't really want to but just can't control it, so a belly band may be in his future. He loves his stuffed puppy buddy we've given him so he's got a pal. He loves a soft bed and I swear smiles in delight at bedtime with his buddy tucked under him. He is now seven months old, about 10 pounds, has completed all his vetting, and he's now ready for his own home. Are you that special person to love Oh, Henry for who he is?

spencer

8/18/20 Spencer left for the Bridge this afternoon - He woke up this morning with diarrhea and not wanting to eat his breakfast. A few hours later, he still hadn't eaten and didn't want to leave the comfort of his bed and cried out when I tried to carry him outside to see if he'd potty. We can only guess that his cancer was causing him discomfort somewhere in his body, and after a few hours of monitoring him to see if he was going to feel better, I could tell it was his time to leave us. He was two days shy of his 14th birthday. He was so happy last week, smiling and bumping my shins when we came in from the yard, wanting attention. I can see his handsome face in the sun, hovering at my feet wanting attention - more so than usual. He must have known then that was going to leave us soon and wanted to make a few more special memories for us to remember him by. We'll meet up with you at the Bridge, special boy!  UPDATE 3/5/20 Spencer has shown no signs of having cancer. This guy seems happier than he's been in ages! Would you consider giving this sweet old man a spot in your family? UPDATE 10/2/19 Spencer had a meet and greet with a potential Schnauzer brother a few weeks ago that went great. But he's been having an issue with a toe pad, so we brought him home to further try to solve his sore foot problem. After a number of tries with different antibiotics with no success at it healing, the vet suggested an x-ray to see if there was a growth. No growth, but the tissue in that pad looked "murky" compared to the rest of the foot, so the decision was made to amputate. The vet thought we needed to send a sample off for a biopsy, and the results came back today. Spencer has an aggressive form of melanoma that normally is found first in foot tissue and in mouths but will also move to lymph nodes and other areas of the body. We so wanted him to have his own home, but that doesn't seem to be possible with a diagnosis of cancer. Chemo is something we won't put him through to possible get a little more time at 13 years old, so we will keep him comfortable here until he shows that he is having problems again. We will not let him suffer but fill his time left with us with as much pampering and happiness as possible.  UPDATE 1/23/19 SPENCER is 12 years old and still here. He'd love his own home - please don't overlook a senior as they have lots of love to share.SPENCER is an eleven year old Mini Schnauzer who just joined our group. He has had his vetting completed and is hoping someone will choose him to shower their love and attention on. He will be joining in our pack activities this week(5/1), so we will be learning more about his personality and how he interacts with other dogs. He's about 21# so not a tiny mini and is salt and pepper in color. He will need help with house training and learning to walk on a leash. In his past, he was a house dog, so we are hoping he remembers his house training manners quickly. UPDATE - 9/9/17 Spencer is doing well with our pack, but he prefers to eat by himself and take his time with his food. He is still wearing a belly band in the house. We have found that because of his years in a small enclosure as a breeder dog, Spencer "spins", always walking in clockwise circles when he's bored or stressed or contained. We have him sleeping in an exercise pen instead of a crate so he has more room and can relax. He would do best with someone who has a fenced yard where he can roam and potty instead of being leashed near a person, which makes him nervous. He prefers spending time by himself, so being an only dog would be a great choice for him. He's a sweet boy and just needs a quiet home for his retirement years. UPDATE - 11/26/17 Our granddaughters(5-7 years old) were here for the Holidays, and Spencer was very nervous with their activity level and noises, causing him to pace and bark but not exhibiting any aggression. As a senior dog who has never known family activity before, he would do best in an adult home without all the small human play and activity. UPDATE 5/1/18 Spencer is still here in foster care. He just turned 12 years old. This boy really deserves a home and family of his own. Please consider him when you are looking for a dog to adopt.

miles

ADOPTED and living in IL! Miles is a 9 year old wheaten Cairn Terrier. He's a smart boy and for the most part gets along with the other dogs - doesn't like the pushy ones that get in his face and will give a growl to warn them to back off. Miles has some anxiety issues and would be best in a home where he can get lots of exercise and attention.  Beeps and small noises like the microwave beep start him into a frantic bark. He walks great on a leash and has had his vetting completed.  Are you that special home that can help this boy with his anxieties?

emmitt

ADOPTED and living in the St. Louis, MO area! 6/9/20 Emmitt is a tiny little black/tan Yorkie senior weighing slightly over 5 pounds. He is a former commercial breeder dog and is learning about being in a home. He is working on keeping his exercise pen clean and dry and is wearing a belly band to help with house training. His vetting has been completed this past week. Emmett has few teeth, so his little tongue hangs out. Are you looking for a tiny little man to keep you company?  Do you have time to devote to helping this boy learn the social graces of being in a home and a good family member? Are you patient and kind and can overlook mistakes and keep an eye on this little guy as he learns about life in a home?

Charmin

Traveled to the Bridge in my arms December 19th, 2020. We are very sad to report that little Charmin's Congestive Heart Failure became worse, making her cough and lose her appetite and become very weak. The spark in her eyes left, indicating to us she was too tired to fight all that ailed her. It wasn't fair to her to try to keep her here. She was one of those that we just couldn't "fix". She's now free of all her physical ailments. I'm sure she was welcomed by all those that have passed through our hands over the years, and she'll be waiting to greet us when it's our time to go. We loved this little girl and so wanted to see her whole again, but it was not meant to be. INITIAL INTRO Yes, this tiny 4.5# Yorkie girl is named Charmin! What a coincidence that we would get a former commercial breeder dog during a Pandemic with that name! Charmin is almost 11 years old, and she came to us because she suddenly could not use her rear legs. After a neuro visit we've found she has multiple compressed discs. But we've been unable to progress with her care because she was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, making her too fragile to be anesthetized for any testing/surgery. She's not in any pain. Her care has been hard during this Pandemic - making specialty vet appointments and not being able to be face to face to discuss her issues has been very hard. Decisions are hard to make about her prognosis when we don't feel we have exhausted all efforts for her. We are thinking we need to check out wheels for this girl because she really wants to move about and drags herself fairly easily. She requires extra care with being carried outside, and we also express her bladder even though she does urinate in her exercise pen. She also needs frequent baths as she is sitting when she does her business. We have her on a medical hold until we feel we have more answers to what is our next step in her care.

2019

We had 32 adoptions and 1 Forever Foster now at the Bridge in 2019.

Kobi and Kori

Cairn brothers Kobi and Kori adopted together and living in TN! What a wonderful blessing when puppies get adopted together so they'll always have a playmate! These two boys are in a loving home that lost their rescued Cairn in January 2018. Fate and Destiny led them to Bongo's Buddies Rescue in March - they helped with the transport of pregnant Precious & her son Ted E Bear, & they've been following us since then. When they saw these boys, they decided to fulfill their wish of having two Cairns at the same time, & we couldn't have asked for anything better! Kobi and Kori are the first adoptions of 2019!

Eveleen

EVELEEN has been adopted and has her own mom in MO! UPDATE - 1/12/19 - YES, Eveleen is still in foster care. Lots of inquiries, but no applicants that are the right fit. Please remember, we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old, and we do not adopt to homes that use e-fencing. Eveleen is very active and loves to run - I believe she would take the "hit" to leave her yard to go exploring. With a little work, she'd be a great companion for someone who likes to walk! UPDATE 10/23/18 - We can't believe this little girl is still here! She is just a sweetheart and loves to get attention. She loves to explore and is a little too much "in your face" with older dogs trying to ask them to play with her, but with other energetic dogs, she'd make a great buddy! She sleeps quietly in her ex pen at night and when we are gone. We are still working on housetraining, but she's doing a good job most of the time. UPDATE 9/23/18 - Eveleen was the fourth born puppy to Precious on 3/18/18. She is now 6 months old and ready for a new home. She's a bouncy little girl, full of energy and ready to run and play. She is a little more needy for attention than her brothers have been, enjoying being scooped up for a little lovin' and time for some assurance that all is right with the world. She has markings similar to an Australian Shepherd, we think, so probably has picked up some of her DNA from her Sporting Group background. She weighs a little over eleven pounds.  Eveleen has had her puppy vaccinations including Rabies and is on monthly Heartworm prevention and has been spayed. Please remember it is our rescue's policy to not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old.

clancy

CLANCY has a mom and fur brother, now living in IL! Traveled  across the Rainbow Bridge 6/9/21  1/23/19 UPDATE - This little man is about as easy going as they come. He enjoys the company of the other dogs here, but he'd be great as an only dog, too. Love how as soon as he gets into the back fenced yard he give a couple of barks, announcing his presence to the world, tail wagging! He loves a comfy bed and doesn't ask for much. Someone needs to adopt this little guy - he'd love a family of his own! Clancy is a 10 year old male Cairn Terrier. He has just completed his vetting and has easily joined our pack of all different sized dogs. Clancy is wheaten in color and a fairly petite boy at 14#.  Our vet found he has a grade two heart murmur but expects it to cause him no issues. He is a sweet and quiet boy, just learning what it's like to be in a home after being in a breeding program. He will need a home willing to work with him learning house training - he wears belly bands in the house to help him understand that marking is not a good thing.  He's already showing that he is quite comfortable sleeping in his crate and is quick to get his business done when taken outside. Then he enjoys sitting and watching the scenery in the neighborhood. If you would like to apply for Clancy, please complete our application found in the Adoption section. We don't anticipate him being here long!

toby

TOBY has a new Dalmatian brother and is living in MO! Toby is a 3 month old little Boston Terrier weighing 8 pounds. He loves to snuggle with you and your fleece throw after zooming around the house. He's not the least intimidated by the bigger dogs here - he's a tease! Just a baby and coming from a poor situation, he's needing 4 meals a day so house training hasn't really begun yet. He's gained over a pound in the little over a week here, which he was in need of doing as he's developing strength and muscles. We're sure he won't be in foster care long as he's just a cutie!

fritz

FRITZ adopted and living in MO! Fritz is a 7 month Mini Schnauzer weighing 18#. He's on the tall side so may not be too much of a Mini! He's come to us from a commercial breeding situation, so he's just learning about life in a house. He's a happy boy and is doing well keeping his crate clean and meeting the other dogs here. He needs one more booster vaccine in a month to complete his puppy vaccinations, and he's being microchipped and neutered this week, so he will be ready to go to a home willing to help him with his leash training and house training. He's going to be a great member of someone's family!

Maleri

Maleri adopted and living in IL! Maleri is a petite , 10 pound Cairn Terrier. Maleri is three years old and a wheaten in color. She is shy and still working on house training. All her vetting is completed, and she is awaiting her Forever Home to spot her. Lots of bonding time with her new family as they work with her to help her overcome her shyness will create a very strong bond for her and her family.

rowan

ROWAN adopted and living with his Corgi mix brother in AZ! Rowan is a 7 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He's about as sweet as they come! He's completed his vetting and is learning about being in a home. He loves to play and chase and has already started playing fetch with a ball in the yard. He also likes to steal the draft guard off the back door and trot with it to his crate! Rowan will make someone a great furkid! He needs a home that can help him use up his energy in a positive way, by taking walks or hikes and stimulating his mind in play.

Lennon

Lennon adopted and living w/his Spoo siblings including Lafayette in IL! Lennon is an almost 3 month old black Standard Poodle with a little drizzle of white on his chest.  He is brother to Cher. Lennon is playful and full of energy and loves to follow his sister. He currently weighs 11# and will need a final Distemper booster in a month and his rabies vaccination. We will be asking an adoption donation plus a $200 neuter deposit refunded at the time proof is sent to us between 6-7 months old.

dylan

DYLAN adopted and living w/his Corgi sister in MI! Dylan the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is not ready for adoption yet, but we wanted to post him now. He is a former commercial breeder dog that is very scared. Dylan has had his initial vet exam and is awaiting his neuter/dental surgery scheduled for next week. He is 6.5 years old and has teary eyes and has lost hair around his eyes - our vet thinks from allergies. We hope being in a home and on good food will clear up this condition. He also is missing MOST of his upper teeth, including his canines, and he will probably lose most of his lower ones in his dental as they are disgusting. His ears do not stand up properly, but he's wanting to be brave and get attention from us. He is a work in progress and is going to be a hard one to let go once we have spent the time needed to show him that life in a home and family is a wonderful thing. Would you like to be the one that wins his trust? Please consider adopting this handsome guy once he's healed from his surgery in a few weeks. UPDATE - 12/21/23 Sadly, Dylan has traveled to the Rainbow Bridge after a long battle with Lymphoma. He was deeply loved by his family and has left a hole in their hearts.

cher

CHER adopted and living in MO w/her Spoo older sister and Greyhound brother! Meet Cher, a black/white Parti Standard Poodle puppy who will be 3 months old on 3-3-19. She is from a litter of 8 released to rescue because the broker would not take them. Cher is a smart girl and ready for her own home. She needs one more Distemper booster and her rabies to complete her vaccinations, then spayed between 6-7 months old. We ask a $200 deposit refunded once you provide us proof from your vet of it being done, along with her adoption donation. Cher currently weighs 12# - we have been told this breeder tends to breed her dogs to a smaller size than normal, so Cher may be on the smaller side of the Standard Poodle scale.

Buddy

BUDDY loves his family in MO! Buddy is an 8 month old Toy Poodle that is white with apricot spots. He's up to date on vetting, crate trained and almost house trained, and he's such a cute boy that loves to zoom and play! He and Oh Henry became immediate friends!

chrissy

CHRISSY has her own mom and dad plus a Poodle brother Jack here in MO! Meet Chrissy! She's an 8 year old Shih Tzu, predominantly white with red spots. Her vetting completed and is ready for adoption. She's a retired breeder dog and is working on house training. She gets along great with all the other dogs here, in fact, she's shown us that she's more like a puppy than a senior and would love to have another playful dog in her new home to play with. She's really cuter in person and her play bows to other dogs make us smile.

bon jovi

BON JOVI now has his own parents here in Missouri! Meet another one of our Rock Stars, Bon Jovi! He's a 5 month old Schnoodle that came from a breeder. He's cream in color and has the hair of the Schnauzer more than a curly poodle. He's doing great learning to not potty in the house, and he sleeps quietly in his exercise pen at night. He's a mellow boy and can sometimes be bullied by the stronger willed dogs in play. He loves to cuddle and would do well as an only dog with a retired couple. We have not worked on leash training, so a fenced yard for potty/play would be ideal for this boy. He's had his vaccinations updated and is on monthly heartworm preventative. Are you looking for a cute, scruffy dog to add to your family?

jett

JETT has a family and TWO Boston Terrier sisters! (Joan) Jett is a tiny 1.5 year old Black/White Boston Terrier. She came to us from a commercial breeder and is working on house training. This girl is full of energy and loves to play and zoom! We know she won't be here long!

tina

TINA has her own home in MO that includes a Chihuahua brother! Tina (Turner) has had her vetting completed and is ready for a home that can be very patient and careful with her as she progresses with learning about life in a home. She is very scared of people and prefers to run from her exercise pen outside straight to her exercise pen in the house where she feels safe. She is currently enjoying the company of little Chi Madonna. She is not leash trained nor house trained, but potties on a pad in her exercise pen.  She is very much a work in progress, overcoming the fears of her past and all that is new being in a home. Tina is a 2.5 year old fawn w/white colored Chihuahua. She is a retired commercial breeder dog who is very scared of everything right now. She has had her initial vetting completed and also her spay/dental. She will do best in a home with another dog to help show her how to be a member of a family. She will require patience as she learns to trust people and learn house training. Do you have another little buddy in your home that would be willing to help her learn to be a great member of a family?

springsteen

Springsteen has been adopted and has Donovan the Standard Poodle as a big brother!  is an 8# Poodle, 7 years old, recently retired from breeding. He's a loving little guy that has had his vetting completed and is ready to learn more about life in a home with his own family! He is not completely house trained but wears a belly band in the house. He's quick to do his business in the fenced yard with the other dogs here - dogs of all sizes. He's had very little leash training, so a fenced yard is the best for him at this point in his training. His name fits him - he can jump like he's on springs! He sleeps quietly in his exercise pen here and enjoys being held and getting skritches, but he still is a work in progress understanding life in a home.

simmons

Simmons is now living in SD with a Mini Schnauzer sister! (Gene) Simmons is almost 1.5 years old and 17#. He's a salt and pepper colored Mini Schnauzer. He will be completing his vetting in the next couple of weeks so should be ready for adoption around the first week of July. He is already showing us that he likes to be around people, giving kisses! He will need help on his house training and walking on a leash, but he seems to be a fast learner to our routine here and is really wanting to please his people.

Olivia

Olivia has an IG brother and is living in AR! Olivia (Newton John) is a six year old Italian Greyhound retired breeder dog. She's sweet but shy around people but enjoys being petted and spending time on a lap, especially favoring men. She has had her vetting completed and would do best in a home with other dogs that can help show her how wonderful life in a home can be. She and Bon Jovi have been buddies since their arrival. She's not completely house trained yet, but she is quick to do her business in our fenced yard on regular trips outside. She sleeps quietly in a crate at night. She has had no leash training, so a yard with a fence over four feet tall is a must at this point in her rehabilitation. She can jump and climb out of a four foot exercise pen, so she will need to be monitored at all times when she's outside.

fiesta

Fiesta journeyed to the Bridge 7-18-19 Her collapsing trachea issue became a severe issue this morning. She will be missed as she was really a little trooper.Fiesta is a special needs dog. She is an 11 1/2 year old Yorkie who weighs about 11 pounds. She was a breeder dog on her way to the vet to be put to sleep: her value was gone because she was no longer producing puppies. We have had her as a foster for 4.5 years now through another rescue, who has recently moved her into Bongo's Buddies Rescue when we received our non profit status. Fiesta has been diagnosed with a collapsing trachea that includes the two branches to her lungs (think upside down Y). The Internist has her on two medications that help to keep her from coughing and help to keep that area strong. They are approx. $30 a month. She is not a candidate for surgery to repair because of where this is positioned. She cannot have any surgery, even a dental, because the fragility of this area prevents intubation. Her trips outside to potty during hot humid weather should be short as she has labored breathing in those conditions. But through all this, she has learned to be loved. She loves skritches. She loves being near her people on a soft bed or the back of the couch. She loves food. She is a bit bossy with other dogs, wanting them to give her the space that a queen deserves. No one knows how much more time Fiesta has, but she lives life one day at a time and loves to be loved. Are you that special home, willing to give her love for the rest of her life, however long that may be? UPDATE 11/30/17 Fiesta has been coughing with the change in weather. We have added another med three times a day to make her more comfortable.

Tom Fogerty

TOM is now living in WI with his parents and an older Cairn sister! Have you ever seen the rain? Well, this is Tom Fogerty, and he and his brother John made that phrase popular in song. Tom is a 12 week old Cairn Terrier! Cairns are tenacious, loving to chew and dig and do things their way at times.  These two brothers will come with neuter deposits along with their adoption donations if adopted before they are six months old as we prefer them to be between 6-7 months old before neutering. We can tell you more about that once you have completed our application and we chat once we've checked your references to make sure you're a good candidate for one of these babies. We're sure these two boys won't be here long because they are super cute!

John fogerty

JOHN is living in New Orleans with a Pickardy Shepherd big sister! Please read the info above on Tom, John's Cairn Terrier brother!

(Fats) domino

ADOPTED and living in MO! Domino is a 5 month old ShihPoo. He is an active little guy in spite of his left eye being damaged and no vision on that side. He is a bit of a tripping hazard when moving about as he does not realize at times that he is walking in front of you, and he also will need some extra guidance as he does things at a fast pace and at times runs into things. Only half his range of vision has not slowed this boy down!

ADOPTED AND LIVING IN MO! Domino is a 7 month old male Shih-Poo. Even though he is missing his left eye, he is full of energy and joy! He will need a home where they understand he is a tripping hazard as he darts around under your feet as he only sees half his world and does seem to want to be close by and underfoot.  Grooming regularly is needed with this mix - they seem to have a soft, heavy, curly coat that mats easily and often when it grows out. If there are other dogs in the home, they will need to be able to tolerate a puppy that is in their face wanting to play, play, PLAY!

doris (day)

ADOPTED and living near a big lake in MO! UPDATE 7/6/19 Doris is ready for her Forever Home! Please welcome Doris (Day)! She is a Maltese/Yorkie and just a wisp of a dog, weighing 3.95#. Doris came to us from a commercial breeder. She is as sweet as she looks! Doris has had her initial vetting completed, and we are awaiting her spay surgery 6/27. We know she won't be here long as she's such a little cutie!

garfunkel

ADOPTED and living in the Chicago area! Garfunkel is a 5 month old Shih Tzu boy that recently has joined the Bongo's Buddies family. He is quickly learning about life in a home. He has completed his initial vetting and is available for adoption. We already have a number of applicants and are working on completing phone calls for reference checks and hope to have him in his own home soon!

Buzz Aldrin

ADOPTED and living in Kentucky! Buzz is a 7 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He and his brother Neil came into our rescue on the anniversary of Apollo 11's Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. Buzz is a happy boy that is quickly learning how to be a member of a family. These two boys love to romp and chase in the yard. They are learning manners and enjoying kind skritches from humans. Both have had their vetting completed and are ready for their Forever families to find them and adopt them!

Neil Armstrong

ADOPTED and living in Arkansas! Neil is a 7 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He and his brother Buzz came into our rescue on the anniversary of Apollo 11's Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. Neil is a happy boy that is quickly learning how to be a member of a family. These two boys love to romp and chase in the yard. They are learning manners and enjoying kind skritches from humans. Both have had their vetting completed and are ready for their Forever families to find them and adopt them!

myron

Myron traveled to the Bridge 10-22-19. We are not sure what happened - he was fine at breakfast Monday the 21st, but mid-morning started "knuckling" or walking on his ankle w/his left foot folded under and his back hunched. We watched him a few hours and not seeing any improvement called to get him in to the vet. Upon examination, they found nothing to explain what was going on. Blood work was PERFECT - amazing for an old man 15-17 years old. So the vet suggested we leave him overnight for IV fluids w/pain and anti-inflammatory meds added. He passed in the night. He had bee with us since 2011 from another rescue group, and we will miss our little "Drunken Sailor" as he had been lovingly nicknamed. Myron is a former breeder dog, dumped at a kill shelter in Arkansas. He has been our foster for six and a half years. Myron is a tall, long legged 12 pound Yorkie about 14 1/2 years old. He is also a special needs dog, needing drops for his dry eye condition twice a day. Myron has a condition known as Alopecia, which has caused him to have a thin coat, resembling a Chinese Crested. He also came to us HW positive. Over the last few years, his seven teeth have dwindled to no teeth, but that doesn't seem to slow him down at mealtime - he loves his kibble to be soaked to softness and served in a rounded bowl. He is a love bug and would be on our laps 24/7 if we could sit still that long. He has earned the knick-name of our "Drunken Sailor" because of the look of bliss he gets on his face with his little tongue sticking out the side because of no teeth to hold it in. Are you looking for a sweet old man to love the last years of his life? Myron might be just the one for you.  UPDATE 12/22/16 - Myron had surgery this morning to remove two cysts on his right front foot pads. The vet was very optimistic about the outcome - less tissue was needed to be removed than originally anticipated. He is using that foot like normal, wrapped to keep it clean for healing. Biopsy results came back as nothing to worry about. UPDATE 7/1/17 This old man tried a stint in a different foster home than ours, but he was very unhappy, wouldn't come out of his crate and wouldn't eat. So back to us he came. He's never had an interest in adoption, which is very sad as he's the sweetest old man. UPDATE 7/1/18 Myron's coat is thin again and his skin dark and splotchy. But he still is happy and active and doing fine. We don't know for certain his age, but he shows no signs of leaving this earth any time soon. He is so easy to have here - knows our routine so well and gets along fine with the other dogs as long as they don't try stealing his spot he's snuggled into on the couch.

apollo

ADOPTED and living in the St. Louis area! Apollo is a black and white Standard Poodle boy that is 7 months old. He and his brother Collins came to us on the day Apollo 11 was launched into space. They have had a rough beginning the first 3 months of life and were very afraid of my husband when they first came.  They are learning to be playful puppies and also enjoy the company of the humans around them. They will need someone with patience and previous Standard Poodle experience.

Collins

ADOPTED and living in the St. Louis area! Collins is a handsome cream, 7 months old Standard Poodle. His brother is Apollo. Please see is write-up above for more information. We are working on pictures of these two active boys!

(Paul) Simon

ADOPTED and living in Illinois! UPDATE10/12/19 This boy has had his neuter and is ready for his own home! His tail is wagging and he's enjoying life and ready to be someone's special boy! (Paul) Simon is an 8 month old Shih Tzu who has just recently come into the Bongo's Buddies family. He is just learning what life is like in a home. We would call his color either a cream or a golden w/dark hi-lights. He weighs almost 15 pounds. Simon has had a great initial exam with our vet and has been neutered. We already have a number of people interested in him, and we are sure that his adopters will be waiting on him to have his surgery completed so they can take him home!

(tim) Conway

ADOPTED and has an older Iggy sister to play with! UPDATE 9/30/19 We cannot believe no one has snatched this handsome guy up! He is now 8 months old and has had his neuter surgery and is ready and waiting for an active home, probably someone with IG experience and knows about their high activity level. INITIAL write-up. Do you need a little goofiness in your life? Would you like a buddy to take on your walks or jogs, or play ball with in the yard? Conway might be just the boy for you! (Tim) Conway is sure to put a smile on your face! He is a 5 month old Italian Greyhound with a beautiful face. Conway looks like he's going to be on the bigger side of the IGGY scale - he's sturdier built than Olivia and still has room to grow into his feet size. He's going to need help with house training and walking on a leash. He just recently learned how to RUN, having lived in tight quarters in a commercial breeding facility. Now his favorite thing is to ZOOM and chase around the fenced yard with our Standard Poodles! He does not do well on a leash yet so will need help learning how to walk nicely with you, but once you build some confidence with him and spend some time playing in a fenced yard, we're sure he will be able to learn to accompany his person on walks and explore the great big world.

graycie

ADOPTED and is loving life in her new home in MO! PLEASE DON'T PASS OVER THE SENIOR DOGS! UPDATE 1/23/19 Graycie has been here a year. She's come such a long way feeling comfortable here, but she deserves her own family. PLEASE - consider adopting a special needs senior. She has dry eye and needs eye drops four times a day. It's really easy to work into a schedule, costing about $34 every six weeks. She loves to play with her toys and to get skritches but isn't a very demanding dog, enjoying her bed and staying in her open crate when you're gone/busy. Totally house trained! Graycie is an 11 year old Shih-Poo. She is about 13# and is white with light grey and cream spots. Graycie came to us as an owner surrender, and she is house trained and a very easy girl to have in your home as she really doesn't ask for attention but prefers her bed in a quiet spot, even in her crate, away from the action. Graycie has chronic dry eye that was untreated for a long period of time, leaving her with some slight sight loss. She needs drops in both eyes 4 times a day.  Because of the pain this condition was causing her, she's not fond of having her eyes cleaned nor getting her drops, but she is slowly understanding that we are trying to make her feel better now that we seem to have found the right combination of drops and treatment plan. Graycie has been an only dog for most of her life but has adjusted to having other dogs around her. She goes outside to the fenced yard, does her business, and comes to the door to give a bark to let you know she's ready to come back in. She has occasionally come to us on the couch and wanted up and to get skritches, but for the most part, she just enjoys watching the goings-on in the house from her bed/crate. Please consider adopting a senior dog - she just wants a home to call her own.  GRAYCIE IS FOSTER NUMBER THIRTY_TWO to be adopted in 2019!

2018

TEN furkids found their Forever Homes in 2018.

timon

TIMON - Adopted and being spoiled by his mom in MO! This sweet 4 year old tiny boy is TIMON! He weighs about 3.5# and is a serious love bug. He is fully vetted and ready to be adopted by his Forever family. Timon needs an ADULT ONLY house, preferably with Chihuahua experience. Timon would prefer to be an only dog or in the company of a small, quiet female dog who won't try to intimidate him and give him his space. He is doing well on house training and will need a fenced yard to potty as he has had no leash training yet. Using an exercise pen to place him in to potty is an alternative to a fully fenced yard until he can potty on a leash. He does like to bark, so your housing situation needs to be able to accommodate a barker.

dolly

DOLLY - Adopted by a repeat adopter here in MO! Dolly was surrendered to us due to an unfortunate change in the family living situation. She was much loved in her former home, and when she came to us, we knew just where we thought she belonged. We got hold of a poodle loving couple who have great patience and love for these kids needing special emotional care, and they took her in. It all happened in a matter of a few day's time. She is actually back with a little poodle girl she knew in her past!

ted e bear

TED E BEAR - Adopted right here in MO! We think his face says it all! This guy is just as handsome as they come! Ted E. Bear is eight months old and weighs about 20#. He came to us from a bad situation in the woods of NC where he and his mother Precious were part of a pack and were virtually alive because of the kindness of neighbors who saw their lack of food, shelter, and any other care.  This boy is ready for his new future. He has a smile on his face and his tail is always wagging. He LOVES running with the Standard Poodles here. He and Billy the Chi have had mutual slight disagreements, so he'd do best we think with a dog his size or larger that likes to run and play tug of war with a rope toy. He is crate trained and house trained. He enjoys getting skritches from his people. He can be a little stubborn about coming in from the fenced yard since he's lived most of his life outside.  He is learning to be a great member of a family and we think would enjoy having older children to play with him or someone to take him on leashed walks to explore the world. His mother Precious is reported to be a Maltese/Cairn. We are unsure what his father was, but we have done a DNA test on Ted E. Bear and are awaiting the results. We will post those results as soon as we get them.UPDATE 4/10/18 The DNA results are in! He is 25% Chihuahua, 25% Shih Tzu, 25% Mixed Breed Group (Herding, Sporting, Guard, Companion) and 12.5% Chow and 12.5% Beagle. When they did his ancestry chart, they are suggesting his mom (Precious) is a Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix, and the dad's line is the mix of all the others. No Cairn and no Maltese to speak of like we were originally told the owners thought Precious was. Whatever the mix, he's got the best of each!

baxter

Baxter, at home in the Chicago, IL area! Baxter is a 12 week old puppy born to Precious on 3/18/18!

billy

Billy has his own family now, living just over the Mississippi River in Illinois! Billy is a 2 year old, 7# red Chihuahua. He came to us as an owner surrender from a couple who had just saved him off an internet site.  He liked to open their screen door and go for walks by himself, so they knew he wasn't in the best situation with them. Billy has been fully vetted and is just as sweet as can be. He loves to wear shirts and bandannas! He is crate trained here for at night/when we're gone but would really like to be snuggled into bed at night with his person under the covers! He gets along with most of the dogs here but does worry about the larger ones, so a home with another small female dog or by himself would be the best option for him. Because of his size, he needs an ADULT ONLY home. He has had a couple of marking issues here, but I think when out of this large pack environment, he will be fine.  Are you looking for a lap dog? Billy is the boy for you! UPDATE 7/11/18 We cannot believe that little Billy is still in foster care. He has had 2 great applications that have fallen thru due to no fault of his own - the families just have had other interests in life and decided now was not the time to add a dog. He loves all the humans he meets. He has such a great big, positive personality. He has loved this hot weather and will go sunbathe on a large rock in our yard for a short while until he finally gets hot and wants back inside. He has proved he can be trusted in the house and no longer wears a belly band. Are you the right person for Billy? Do you want a little snuggle buddy?

dexter

Dexter is now being spoiled by his little human sibling in his new family in the St. Louis area! Dexter is the first born to Precious on 3/18/18. He is now 16 weeks old and ready to go to a home! This smart little guy is very laid back - he likes to watch the action and take it all in before jumping in. My oldest daughter was here for a few days and taught him how to sit on command! At his 16 week vet appointment, he weighed a little over 9 pounds. We believe he will look very much like his brother from Precious' previous litter, Ted E Bear, who was about 19# when he was adopted at 9 months old. You can see his pic in our Photo Gallery. Dexter has had his Distemper combo puppy vaccinations and his rabies vaccination and has been on a puppy worming schedule. He is on monthly heartworm prevention. He will need to be neutered by his new family between 6-7 months so will come with a neuter deposit as part of his contract that will be returned once proof has been sent to us. Please remember it is Bongo's Buddies Rescue's policy to not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old.

precious

Precious now has her own Mom, living in IL!  This is Precious, a 3-4 year old, 13# Cairn/Maltese mix. Does that make her a Cair-a-mal? She's sweet enough to be candy! She came to us from a bad situation where the dogs were being neglected.  Precious will not be ready for adoption until she's done raising her puppies and has been spayed. She is doing a wonderful job taking care of her puppies' needs. Precious came to us 2 weeks before she delivered FOUR beautiful puppies on 3/18/18, Dexter (male), Aideen (female), Eveleen (female), and Baxter (male) . One puppy died a week after she was born - Aideen was tiny and unable to nurse regularly, so we tube fed with no success of getting her to gain weight.   We will be posting pics and videos of the puppies as a group for a few more weeks until they are a little more active, then post them individually as it becomes closer to time for them to be available for adoption. UPDATE 7/11/18 Precious is being spayed and getting a dental today! Once she's had 10 days of recuperation time, this sweet little girl will be ready for her own home.  She weighed 14#, which is a bit chunky for her small frame, but we've been feeding her well since her pups were born as she didn't have regular meals in the years before she came to us. We DNA tested her son before he was adopted, and it showed his mom to be a Long Haired Chi/Shih Tzu mix, which explains why Precious looks so much like a Shih Tzu instead of a Maltese or Cairn. She is house trained, gets along with other dogs of all sizes, and loves getting attention from humans. Please get your application in today so we can have a new home lined up once she's recovered from her spay surgery.

precious's Puppies

PRECIOUS' PUPPIES Born 3/18/18. This is (left to right) Dexter, Aideen (died 3/25/18), Eveleen, and Baxter! They will not be ready for adoption until at LEAST 10-12 weeks old, depending on their rate of maturity. We are now taking applications - they will be ready to leave June 12th after their second puppy vaccinations. Individual pictures to come soon! We DNA tested their brother from Precious' previous litter and believe they will be the same mix - mom is Chi/Shih Tzu and dad a true Heinz 57 of Beagle/Chow/Sporting Group mix.

donovan

Donovan has his own home with 4 fur brothers and loves taking walks to the barn to visit the horse! Donovan is a black, 1 year old Standard Poodle weighing 45 pounds. He came to us as a transfer from another rescue group. Donovan was born in a commercial breeding facility and lived the first 8 months of his life in a wire cage - imagine what little he saw from there. He'd had little human contact and was very scared of everything that was new around him when he first arrived. He didn't know any better than to pee where he was laying as when he used to do that, it ran thru the wire. He is now able to keep his crate clean. Donovan has been fully vetted - had his exam, vaccinations, and neuter. He's HW negative and on monthly prevention. Donovan has PICA - he wants to eat everything that he can swallow. He passed a 3" wood screw a day or so after arriving, and he has not learned to appreciate bedding in his crate without tearing it up and trying to eat it. Our laundry is out of reach, as is anything else that is swallow-able, and this is probably going to be something with Donovan that will need to be done for the rest of his life as this is common in Standard Poodles to eat socks, undies, small toys/parts and then have a blockage and need surgery to remove the item. He also gulped down a live adult Robin in about 4 bites after catching it in our back yard.  He is an active boy and needs plenty of time in a fenced yard romping and playing or being taken on brisk walks. He knows to sit for a treat when it's time to kennel up.  He enjoys playing in a wading pool. He would do best in a home with another large buddy to play with and show him and teach him about life and living in a family. If you have never had a Standard Poodle, they are like humans in a curly coat. They are very smart and want to please and be with their people.

charlie

Adopted in MO and has a Cocker Spaniel sister! Charlie the Cocker Spaniel is a recent release from a commercial breeder. He is approx. 2-4 years old and has just had his vetting completed. He is a beautiful chocolate boy who will need slow transition help from his very broken spirit to becoming a member of a family. Everything is scary to him right now. He does not understand keeping his belly band dry because all he's known is he can potty right where he is sitting or lying down. He also needs to gain some weight. We are going slow introducing him to new things - he is very overwhelmed with all the new stimulations being in a home brings. He is very much a work in progress. UPDATE 6/1/18 Charlie now seeks me out, wanting skritches and loving. He is braver moving about in the house and can eat in the kitchen with a few other dogs if watched so he doesn't give his bowl up to anyone that approaches. He still needs his belly band in the house, but he can go longer periods of time without being wet. He sleeps quietly in his exercise pen at night, and he really likes to tag around the yard with Spencer, who doesn't always appreciate having a buddy right on his heals. Please consider adopting Charlie - he's coming along nicely and could be bonding with his Forever Home instead of getting more comfortable in foster care.

kato

Adopted and living in Louisiana! Kato is a ten week old Cairn Terrier puppy. He is the first to leave this trio of 3 Cairn brothers! His family already has Cairn Terriers included in their household, and they also foster for a Cairn rescue group, so Kato won't be lacking in playmates! Happy Forever, little Kato! Kato is the last adoption this year for a total of TEN DOGS adopted in 2018!

2017

There were a total of NINETEEN furkids who found their Forever Homes in 2017!

luna

HAPPY NEW YEAR to Luna and her new family living in IL! Luna is an energetic but loving Jack Russell/Wire Haired Terrier Mix. She is three years old and seventeen pounds and is completely vetted. Luna loves to run and explore, but she also wants to find a cozy spot next to you on the couch in the evenings. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and she has not had an accident in her panties in the two weeks that she's been here, so it's time for them to come off and see if she really is house trained. She can be a little possessive of her food and toys with the other dogs. Luna came to us because she has a very HIGH PREY DRIVE. She will not be placed in a home with cats or with cats on the property. She was previously in a home with 3 barn cats, and Luna jumped the four foot fence to chase a cat. Luna loves children, and she is getting along with the other dogs here, especially wanting to engage Lafayette the Standard Poodle in play!

jubilee

Congratulations to Jubilee and her new family in MO! Jubilee is a blue Standard Poodle who will turn one year old in February. She's full of energy and awaiting her spay because she came to us in heat. She will take someone with patience because she's been spoiled, getting her way all the time, and she also thinks she's a little lap dog, catapulting her 45 pounds towards you. She is constantly looking at you for approval, so she will be a fast learner!

sweetie pie

Congratulations to Sweetie Pie and her new family in MO! Meet Sweetie Pie, a 6 year old black Shih Tzu. She has retired from being a mom and is ready to be a family member. Her name is an indication of her temperament - she loves everything and everyone. Her tail is constantly wagging! We had such interest in the 2 previous Shih Tzus that we already have a home waiting for her where she'll have human parents and a Shih Tzu brother to keep her entertained!

macaroon

Congratulations to Macaroon and her new family in MO, including two Poodle sisters! Macaroon is a rotund little white Poodle girlie with a few cream colored spots. She is approximately six years old and seven pounds. Her vetting is also completed. She came from the same wretched facility as Licorice. She enjoys a soft bed and being left alone, but both these girls are still learning and starting to show more confidence in themselves. They are even starting to complain when their meals are a bit delayed, which is a great sign of building confidence! She will also need a home that can keep up the work in her rehabilitation, someone with patience and the ability to understand that she's progressing as quickly as she can. Both Licorice and Macaroon should be considered a flight risk and are not ready for leash training but need a contained area to do their business outside so they can easily be scooped up and brought back in the house when they're done. One day these two will understand how to be little divas! UPDATE 1/3/17 - Macaroon is progressing very slowly. She is still a very timid girl and does not want any affection from humans. She likes men more than women which is quite the opposite of the normal commercial breeder dog - she usually piddles whenever I pick her up or even put her panties on her. She would need a very special home at this point in time where sometime is very willing to work with her and let her progress on her own pace. If only these kids could talk and tell us the horrors they must have endured so we could understand more about what they need to succeed besides just time and patience.

Clarissa

Congratulations to Clarissa - she is now living with her sister Phoebe in MO! This is another newly retired female Poodle named Clarissa. She is 10 years old and is the sister to Phoebe, who was adopted last Fall. Clarissa is about 10 pounds and is white and grey. She is now up to date on her vetting and ready to find a family to love her forever. She is a bit timid but interested in attention, and we are working on house training. She is going to be a little lover!

ruby

Congratulations to Ruby who was adopted in MO! Ruby is a 2 year old Cairndoodle - yes, her mom was a Poodle and dad a Cairn! She's just under 12 pounds and loves to be on your lap. It was reported that she was having trouble with house training, so we've had panties on her for the week that she's been here and have had only one wet pantie so far. That's pretty good considering she's adjusting to a whole new home and pack and schedule. She is getting along with all the dogs here, walks well on a leash, has all of her vetting completed, and she's ready to be adopted.

ernie

Congratulationes to Ernie - he's in his new home in MO! Ernie is an 8 month old Cairn/Poodle. He's about 12#, and his ears can't decide if they are Cairn and will stand up or if they're Poodle and will flop over - they change almost daily! He is a bit timid but loves snuggling in a lap. He's getting along with all the dogs here and sleeps quietly in his exercise pen in our den. He's wearing a belly band to remind him not to piddle in the house, and he's doing a great job keeping it dry. Ernie's had all his vetting and is looking for the right home to spot him and apply!

bentley

Bentley now has his own dad and a Westie sister - Congratulations to them all! Bentley is a West Highland Terrier and will be a year old the end of May. He came from a breeder situation - didn't sell when he was little and then was related to the females there, so had to go. He's just now learning what life in a home is all about so will need help with his house training. He's energetic and loves to play, so a home with a fenced yard and a family that has time to burn off some energy with this young boy will be required. His vetting has just been completed, and I doubt that we will have him in foster care long!

Gretl

Gretl has her own mom and is close by in MO! Congratulations to both! Gretl will be six years old in May and is a salt and pepper Mini Schnauzer, weighing about 14#. She is a former breeder dog so is adjusting to living in a home. She is scared of thunderstorms so will need someone who can keep her safe during a storm - she can climb a 4 foot fence in fear of a clap of thunder. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night. Her vetting has been completed, so she's ready for someone to spot her and fall in love with her!

clyde

Congratulations to Clyde! He now lives in MI along with two Scottie siblings! This is Clyde, an almost 8 year old Scottish Terrier. He recently came to us from a breeder, so this is his first experience in a home. He has had his vetting completed, just being neutered 4/26, so he will be introduced into our pack in about 5-10 days after he's healed. He is not house trained and has had no leash experience yet, so he will need someone willing to work with him on these things. He also is quite the character and shows some of that "terrier 'tude", so someone familiar with the breed might be the best fit. We will post more on this handsome guy once he's recuperated from his alter procedure and is up to meeting the pack here.

molly

Congratulations to Molly and her new multi Scottie family in IN! Please welcome Molly the Scottish Terrier! She will be eight years old in a few weeks and is hoping for her present to be a Forever Home! Molly is a former breeder dog so is new to everything in a home and stresses, panting and wanting to hide. She will need someone with patience who can help her learn about all the wonderful things being in a home and family can bring. Her initial vetting of vaccinations and tests was completed a couple weeks ago, and she was just spayed and had her dental this past Friday 4/28 so is still recuperating and has not met our pack yet. She is not house trained nor leash trained so will need help with both of those. A home with a fenced yard would be a plus since she doesn't know how to potty on a leash so close to a person. Molly earned her wings 4/21/18 after being diagnosed with Lymphoma a few short weeks before.

percy

Happy Forever to Percy and his new mom in WI!This is tiny PERCY, who weighed in at a whopping 4.3# at his initial vet exam. He is a 6 year old Biewer or Parti Yorkie, having black, tan and white markings. He had his vetting completed a couple of weeks ago and is ready for a home of his own. Like Peter, he has spent the first part of his life as a breeder dog and will need help with house training and leash training. We also soak his kibble and add canned food as he has few teeth. He and his pal Peter do well together most of the time, so if you are looking for possibly two little fellows, these guys could work well together. Percy is more outgoing than Peter and will come to you wanting to me picked up and held. These two boys would do best in a home that will be patient with them while they learn to do their business outside. These tiny breeds are not suited for life in a home with small children or other large dogs who might play too rough for them to be safe.

peter

Congratulations to little Peter and his new mom in IL! Do you like TINY dogs? Meet Peter, a TINY 6 year old black and tan Yorkie! He weighed a mere 3.9# at his initial exam and is six years old. He has had his vetting completed and is ready for his Forever Home to find him and adopt him! He came to us with only one tooth that had to be removed during his neuter/dental last week (4/18), so we soak kibble and then mix with canned food for his meals. He is a former breeder dog and needs help working on his house training and leash training. He is timid and hides in the back of his crate in the morning not wanting to be found. He'd probably do best in a home with another tiny dog to help him learn about life in a family. He and his friend Percy could also be adopted together as they get along well.

slate

And on the same day as Peter, Happy Forever to Slate and his new parents, living in IN! Meet Slate, an 18 month old handsome gray Mini Poodle, weighing about 10 pounds! Slate has had all of his vetting completed recently, and he's looking for a great home to help him learn about being in a house and a member of a family. He is wearing belly bands in the house to remind him that potty is done outside, and he's doing great! Slate has been quick to learn how to be a member of a multi dog family. He has had little leash training as we have a big fenced yard for potty and play. He sleeps quietly in a crate at night/when gone, and he's learning about what it is like to play with toys and get lots of loving!

benjamin

Congratulations to Special Needs Benjamin in his adoption by a couple with lots of Cavalier experience here in MO! Benjamin is a nine year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He has only been here a week, and from his desire to be petted and given attention, you'd never know he's not lived his entire life in a home. Benjamin is already enjoying leisure walks on a leash, something that can be intimidating for a former breeder dog! He enjoys skritches from the humans around him, or just curling up in a soft bed for a snooze. He is scheduled for his neuter surgery and a much needed dental 10/25, and after a couple of weeks of recuperation, he'll be ready to move on to his new home. UPDATE 11/8/16 - Benjamin has had his neuter/dental surgery and is ready for a home! It was discovered during this procedure that Benjamin has congestive heart failure. Dogs, like humans, can live long lives with this as long as it is monitored. He is on a couple of inexpensive medications to help with this. He'd like a quieter home with lots of soft beds and someone able to give him lots of love and attention. He walks well on a leash and enjoys a ball but playing with it himself. He's a sweet boy who likes to stick with his people, tail wagging.UPDATE - 4/8/17 - Benjamin is still coughing, and after an exam by another vet, we think he has an airway issue/infection instead of congestive heart failure. We have taken him off the CHF medications and now have him on a couple of antibiotics to see if they do the trick of ridding him of what is making him cough. He's got a couple more weeks on these meds, and I hope by then we would feel comfortable allowing him to go to a new home. UPDATE - 5/23/17 - today Benjamin saw an Internist that diagnosed him with Chronic Lung Disease, or COPD. This has been something that has started years ago, probably with untreated pneumonia. This is not a reversible disease, but it can be managed. There are more tests we need to have done to see if there's any bacteria or fungus in his lungs, and we also need to have a scan of his heart done to make sure his enlarged lungs are not impeding heart function, bringing the need for heart medication.

chanel

Congrats to Chanel and her new parents in MO! She is now living with Macaroon and another Poodle sister! Have you seen Chanel's Fall coat? We think it was taken to the cleaner's and lost! This poor 11 year old Miniature Poodle came from the breeder just about naked. We are trying to guess what color her coat will be when it comes back in - we are thinking it will be what they call Cafe Au Lait, a shiny tan color, much lighter than a brown poodle.  We know she already has the liver points, which aren't very attractive in her initial, scared picture in which she is really quite bare. We hope to have a better picture soon of her. She's a very sweet girl and follows you around wanting attention. Chanel has an old, unrepaired torn cruciate, but she has learned to live with the way it has mended over the years. She is currently being treated for infected ears, and an ulcerated right eye, and  will be getting her spay and dental completed on 10/25, after which she'll want to enjoy a couple more weeks of relaxing around her foster home before moving on to a Forever situation. She'd like a quiet home where she can be the diva she was meant to be! UPDATE 1/2/17 - Chanel has had a battle with the ulcer on her right eye, and so today she saw a specialist who debrided the ulcer. We are using antibiotic drops to keep it from getting infected as it heals and will return for a re-check in eleven days. UPDATE 1/20/17 - The eye doctor has examined Chanel and declared the ulcer gone! She still has a few blood vessels clouding her eye that developed as the body was working to heal, but he assures us in a few weeks that eye will be clear. She's definitely ready for a Forever home! UPDATE 3/2/17 HAPPY Birthday to Chanel - she's 12 years old and look at her coat in the second picture - she's just a teddy bear!

snickers

At home with his new family in MO! SNICKERS is a two year old grey Mini Poodle who is looking for a home, possibly with another energetic playmate!  He weighs almost nine pounds. He enjoys chasing and wrestling with dogs of all sizes here. He is still a little shy and prefers to eat away from the rest of the pack here, but he's getting more confident every day. He can be a little hard to catch when outside in the fenced yard when it's time to come in - he thinks his humans playing chase to pick him up is fun, so for now, he should be considered a flight risk. He has had all his vetting updated so is ready for adoption.

hakuna

Sisters Hakuna and Matata were adopted together and are living in MO with their Schnauzer sister Molly! Meet HAKUNA! She is an 18-24 month old Mini Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix weighing 9.5#. She is tri color, having black, red and white in her coat. She and her sister Matata and also Timon came to us from a commercial breeder, so they are experiencing life in a home instead of a cage for the first time. Hakuna is fully vetted and ready to be adopted. She and her sister love to run and play, and Hakuna even likes to run with the big dogs here and wrestle with them. Both of these girls can be very energetic, but they also like to cuddle - Hakuna's favorite place is between my legs on the ottoman on a soft throw. Hakuna should be considered an escape artist as she can easily CLIMB about 3 feet up with no problem. She will need a securely fenced yard for now as she has had no leash training yet. She can be a barker, so your home should accommodate some noise. Her house training is going well - we are still having her wear panties in the house as we're not sure she's quite ready to go without. She met our 5-7 y/o granddaughters over Thanksgiving and did OK, but because of her small frame should be in a home with children 10 and older. She is energetic so her new home should be able to help her burn off energy - she's just learning about toys and how to play with those but loves to play with other dogs. She was not thrilled with the camera and it's noises and flash!

matata

Hakuna and Matata were the last adoptions of 2017.  Meet MATATA! She is the sister of Hakuna and is also about 18-24 months old. She has had her vetting completed and is now ready for her Forever Family to find her. She is also a Mini Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix and is red and white and is about 6.5#. She came to us still having 5 baby teeth in her tiny mouth, so those have been extracted. She also had a very thin coat which is growing out nicely. Matata is a submissive piddler and will piddle when you go to pick her up, so she is wearing panties in the house but doing well on house training. She is an escape artist and can CLIMB, so a very secure fence is needed for this girl at this stage since she's not yet leash trained. She is also the more dominant of the two girls, even though she's the smaller sister, so a home with other dogs should have no other alphas that might challenge her. They met our granddaughters over Thanksgiving and did well, but we are recommending they go to an adult home or one that has children over the age of 10. She likes to curl up on you or next to you on the back of the couch to snuggle in the evenings once things calm down. She can be a barker, so your home situation should be able to accommodate a barker.

2016

We had 24 adoptions in our first year!

romeo

ADOPTED and being spoiled in KS with his new mom and 18 year old Poodle sister named Deedee, 3/22/16! This is Romeo. He is a tiny little five pound, 10 yr. old Yorkshire Terrier that is now retired after being a breeder dog the first ten years of his life. Romeo is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, had a dental,  and he is ready for adoption.  He loves to snuggle into a lap and loves to be with his person, so a home where there is someone home most of the day would be the ideal situation for him. He is wearing a belly band to help with his house training. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night and gets along with the other dogs here.

tilly

ADOPTED and much loved in MO with her new mom, 4/29/16. Tilly is a 10 year old tall, 14# Yorkie. Can you even begin to imagine how it would feel to find yourself homeless? To lose all your worldly comforts? To not know where your next meal is coming from or where you will be sleeping tonight? That has been the fate of Tilly the Yorkie, not just once, but multiple times in her life. In her ten years of life, what I have been able to piece together, she has found herself not only with multiple families but in a shelter. You would think all this change might make her angry or untrusting, but it has made Tilly resilient.  The definition of resilience is “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties – to spring back”. That is the perfect way to describe this sweet girl. She isn’t holding any grudges against humans that have made her life so uncertain from day to day. She eats every meal as if it were gourmet. She enjoys a bath and being clean because she’s known how it feels to be matted and dirty. She loves the feel of sunshine and rolling in the grass. She wants to please the people she’s with and seems to be house trained. She enjoys the company of other quiet dogs. She enjoys curling up in warmth and softness every chance she gets because she knows how life can be cold and hard. Isn’t it time for Tilly to find that one last family that can take care of her and love her Forever?

9/16/16 Our dear Tilly is now at the Rainbow Bridge. About two weeks ago, she started having bladder trouble at night, wetting the bed in her sleep. She also lost interest in food. Her mom took her to the vet, and they discovered she had a UTI and started antibiotics. For a week or so, they thought she was on the road to getting better, but then she lost interest in food once again. This morning after being examined by two vets, they did an x-ray and found a mass, so she was taken immediately into surgery. They found a very large and ugly mass involving her spleen and her liver, very probably cancerous, and not operable. So Tilly left this world in the loving arms of her heartbroken mom.

archie

ADOPTED and living in WV with his new dad and Westie siblings Daisy and Sammy, 5/13/16.  Archie, a 3.5 month old West Highland Terrier.  He's your typical active, inquisitive, fearless, happy-go-lucky terrier! Just like most puppies, he loves to chew on everything and try out new situations and get into things. He's quick to react to you reprimanding him - he's a smart boy and wants to please. We are working on house training, and he's doing a good job. He loves to explore and play, zooming across the yard here in pursuit of catching up with one of the adults. Are you ready for some action? Archie may be the little boy for you!

glory bea

ADOPTED by her foster family and loving life in a pack of terriers! Glory Bea, a 4 year old West Highland Terrier, was a working girl, earning her keep by having puppies, until recently when it was deemed she wasn't doing what was expected of her and lost her job. Westies can have allergies to food and poor environment, and Glory is a testament to that. She came with a very thin coat and angry red skin, a combination of yeast and secondary infection from scratching at the constant itchiness.  We started oral medications and medicated bathes, keeping a shirt on her to keep her from digging on her bare skin. She is getting grain free food to eliminate the possible allergies to wheat/corn products. We needed to wait to do her spay until her skin was better and would be able to heal with no issues - planning on re-evaluating her condition in  about a month. Sometimes the best of plans go amiss - Glory suddenly developed an inguinal hernia and waiting was not an option - she was in pain. After an overnight stay at the vet's office, she is happy to be back to her foster home, recuperating from her hernia repair/spay/dental and continuing  care for her skin, which is no longer inflamed and itching.

fiona

ADOPTED and living with her new mom in IL who is in love with her new little girl! 6/15/16 Fiona is a five year old Maltese. She is whiter than this picture shows, but she does have some stained areas around her face/feet that will eventually grow out. She is a tiny girl at five pounds, but she prances around the other bigger dogs here like she's the QUEEN! Yesterday she decided to take off her crown and act like one of the ruffian terriers here and delighted in rolling in every stinky spot in the soggy yard that she could find. It is such a joy watching these dogs that have never had the experience of being out in a yard in grass investigate all the new things. She is fully vetted and learning how to be a house dog, and she already knows that a lap or a pillow on the couch is the place to be. We are working on house training with her also, and I think she enjoys strutting around in her little panties.

dixie

ADOPTED and living with her new family in MO, including a cat! 6/21/16 This cute little female Jack Russell Terrier is Dixie. She is 15 months old, eleven pounds, red and white in color, and she's a bundle of energy! The breeding life didn't seem to be a good fit, so now she is learning how to be a member of a family. She is fully vetted and working on house training. JRT's are fully of energy and love to bound around the yard, so a securely fenced yard is a plus when thinking about adopting Dixie!

cody

ADOPTED and living with his new family in IL, including an older Maltese brother! Meet Cody! He's a 16 month old Maltese. His mom found herself facing health issues, and out of her love for Cody, she placed him in our care so we could make sure he gets into a great home! He's a happy and sweet little guy and just as cute as a button!

jinny

ADOPTED and living in IL! Jinny is a 4 year old West Highland Terrier. She is a former breeder dog and is now learning what life as a family member is like. She's a silly girl - when she asks for attention, she will come to you and throws her head back, tail wagging. Jinny enjoys time on your lap getting skritches, and she loves to run and chase around in the yard with the other dogs. She is fully vetted and working on house training. She is a bit of an alpha and is quick to tell other dogs off - especially females - if they get in her way, so she would do best as an only dog or with a submissive male. Her coat was clippered short when we got her, and we can't wait to see her as it grows out and she begins to look more like that typical Westie! Update on Jinny 6/27/16 - Jinny LOVES water! We have a wading pool in the fenced back yard for the dogs, and she jumps in, sticks her head underwater, and basically splashes all around! Now that she knows it's so much fun, we have to watch her with the water bowls in the house because she's decided to play in them or pick them up and try to carry them around, making her own Slip and Slide as she goes!

augie

ADOPTED and living at one of the lakes in MO! Augie is a 13 month old blue merle Mini Aussie. He's tall and handsome with those beautiful blue eyes. Augie weighs 34 sleek pounds so is at the larger end of the Mini scale. Australian shepherds are working dogs and need their minds stimulated to be happy. They are energetic and need structure in their life - he would love for someone to help him learn commands and walk him thru them daily. He'd be a great candidate for canine freestyle dance - he's always watching his human for approval.  Augie took a beginner agility class with his former owner and really enjoyed it. Agility classes are a great bonding experience between dog and owner - are you looking for a smart boy that enjoys pleasing his people?

trixie

ADOPTED and living in MO with her new JRT brother Sherman and 4 human siblings! Trixie is Dixie's sister! (Dixie was recently adopted.) Trixie is 15 months old, weighs 10 pounds, and she is a tri color - red/black/white.  She is a little more timid than her sister, but she is warming up nicely to life in a house. She is also just learning house training and would love to have a fenced yard to run in. Trixie has had no leash training yet, but we will work on that once we get the basics down.  She gets along with the other terriers here.

Opie

ADOPTED and living in SD with an adult Westie brother and sister to help teach him about life as a family member! Opie is a 3 month old West Highland Terrier. He weighs about 8 pounds and will be getting his initial vetting this week. The same applies to him regarding his neuter as with Andy - we prefer they have those done between 6-7 months of age. He's also a bouncing baby terrier, doing all the same exploring and running and chewing! I have no doubt these two(Opie and Andy the Westie puppies) won't be here long - they are ADORABLE!

Andy

ADOPTED and living nearby in the St. Louis, MO area! Andy is an almost 4 month old West Highland Terrier. He weighs about 9 pounds and will be getting his initial vetting this week. He will not be ready for his neuter until between 6-7 months old so once adopted will have a neuter contract and a deposit that will be refunded once proof of neuter is complete. He's your typical little terrier puppy - inquisitive, high energy, and wanting to put everything in his mouth!

macy

ADOPTED and living in AR with a Scottie brother named Jack! Macy is a 16 month old black Scottish Terrier. She will be having her spay surgery 8/30 so will be ready for her new home in about two weeks. She has only been here a week but has shown us that her new family needs to have previous Scottie experience - she has been a breeder dog in a cage and has lots of energy to expend! She is loving playing fetch in the back yard and is already bringing the ball back to be thrown again. We have not put her into our pack yet because we have been waiting until after she recuperates from her spay to proceed, but she's been out in the yard in a dog run at the same time as our pack. She is showing some typical "terrier 'tude" at the other Scotties here, so we'll do another update once she's been integrated into the pack and we know more about her ability to be with other dogs. As with all black dogs, it's been almost impossible to get a good photo of her. We have not given her a good Scottie grooming yet, so she's still sporting that shaggy puppy look.

lafayette

ADOPTED and living in the Chicago area with other Standard Poodle siblings! Lafayette is a big handsome guy - a  Standard Poodle. He is approximately 5-6 years old, fifty-nine pounds, and 25 inches at the shoulders. He is house trained and also knows the commands of sit, stay, down, shake, sit up, and in your bed. He also waits for permission to get on the couch. Lafayette is the smartest dog I think I've ever met. He walks well on a leash and gets along with other dogs. He wants to be near his people and needs a home where people are home to give him love. We will be carefully screening applicants for this big sweetheart.

angel

ADOPTED and living in the rolling Missouri River farmland right here in Missouri! Angel is a 5 year old, 9.5 pound white Malti-Poo with a few waves of cream running through her coat. She is also a former commercial breeder dog who is happy to be retired! She has completed all her vetting and is awaiting someone to snatch her up to be the newest member of their family. Angel is more outgoing than her friend Millie the Poodle. They are both doing very well with house training. Angel likes to keep her humans in sight or will put up a bit of a protest by barking. Both girls are crate trained for sleeping at night and when we're gone. Angel would like to have her friend Millie adopted with her, but if you have another small dog she can be friends with, that will work, too. Both of these girls are getting along well with the other dogs here, mostly small terriers.

buster

ADOPTED and living in MO with his new mom and dad! Buster is a 2 year old, seventeen pound Jack Russell Terrier. He's a handsome tri-color, most of his body being white, and with folded ear tips. He is a bit skittish with any new noise, but he is learning that life in a home is pretty nice. Buster loves getting attention - he loves getting skritches around his head/neck. He's able to sit still now next to you for attention instead of wanting to bounce around. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night, and he enjoys checking out everything in the back yard. He is fully vetted now, but his testosterone level is still quite high, making him believe he should still be a stud muffin, so we're having to limit his contact with just the other dogs here who will tell him off nicely. I believe it takes about 6 weeks after a neuter for a male to lose that urge. He is wearing a belly band in the house as he is wanting to mark everything. This is all very typical of a former breeder dog. I am confident he is going to transition into a great member of a family fairly quickly as he has a great attitude about learning new things. He is a high energy dog and would do best with a securely fenced yard to play in. We will begin leash training with him shortly as I think he will be a great candidate for someone who likes to take walks once he masters being on a leash.

UPDATE 6/27/16 Buster's testosterone levels have diminished and now he can focus on just being a silly dog. He thinks it's grand to steal the hand towel off the oven door in the kitchen. I'm sure he'd be into the dirty clothes basket if we left it where the dogs had access. He's going after thrown balls in the yard but hasn't mastered the skill of bringing them back just yet - he'd rather keep them to himself and play with them. He doesn't like approaching you of his own accord, but once you have hold of him, he enjoys staying and getting loved on. He's turning into quite the character.

millie

ADOPTED and living in MO with her new mom and grandmom! Millie is a 5 year old white Poodle, weighing about 9 pounds. She is a former commercial breeder dog, so she's timid because everything in a house is new to her. She has completed all her vetting and is ready for her Forever family to spot her and apply to adopt her! Millie's new found favorite spot is on the couch with foster mom. She and her friend Angel the Malti-Poo were best buddies (Angel was recently adopted), but if you have another small dog that likes to cuddle that can help Millie learn about life in a family, that would work, too!

wallis

ADOPTED and living in MI with his new mom and Norwich brother! Wallis is a nine year old Norwich Terrier. He weighs 14 pounds and is a bundle of love! He gets along with the other dogs here and would spend all day next to his person if you'd just sit still on the couch and allow him to do so. Norwich terriers love to please their people. They make great little companions, especially if you enjoy having a dog by your side. Wallis has had his vaccinations updated and had his neuter and dental, but he came to us heartworm positive. The medication used for the treatment has been on back-order and is finally in stock, so he will get his first treatment 8/17. He will need to be kept very calm and quiet for about eight weeks after the injections of the medication to kill the adult worms in his heart and as they break up and are absorbed by his body. This treatment is expensive and risky, so please keep your dogs on heartworm preventative. Once Wallis is cleared for adoption, he won't be here long as Norwich Terriers are a hard to find breed. Please apply now so we can have a home ready and waiting for this sweet little man! UPDATE - 9/1/16 Wallis has done great after his first injection in his heartworm treatment. He will get the final two injections 9/15 and 9/16, then will need about a month more of waiting calmly while any remaining heartworms die and are absorbed into his body. He has been so patient and is really wanting to act like a regular dog and run and play with the others here. Please consider putting in your applications now for this guy - he won't be here much longer! UPDATE - 10/1/16 Wallis has had his two final injections and has had two weeks of quiet time. He's doing great, and we feel he's ready for his Forever home! If you are interested, put in your application NOW because when we post him to Adoptapet, he will be gone in the blink of an eye because this breed is hard to find.

licorice

ADOPTED and living in OK with her new mom and dad!Licorice is an approximately 6 year old, seven pound black Poodle. Her vetting is completed. She has a white blaze on her chest and her left front foot is also white. She is a tall, thin looking girl compared to the other Poodles here. Her breeding days are over, and she's lucky to have made it out alive. While she wants to be with you, she's never seen inside a house and all the bright and shiny and noisy things that entails. She is starting to enjoy getting skritches, but she still shivvers on your lap. She is in the beginning stages of house training, and we are starting with using potty pads first because of her fear. She has never known having space to run, so being out in the back yard is overwhelming. She does best in the dog run where she is easier to catch, and she's quickly learned to do her business outside for the most part. Licorice really finds comfort when her friend Macaroon is near. She is very timid and is looking for a home with lots of patience and a willingness to work with her as she learns how to love being a part of a family.

beau jangles

ADOPTED in an instant! Beau is an eight month old Standard Poodle. This sweet boy found himself in a crowded situation and in need of more care than what was able to be given. He's a red and white parti poodle and very smart!

macy

ADOPTED and living as an only furkid in MO! Macy the Scottish Terrier is back with us again. She turned out to be too much of an alpha for the resident smaller Scottie in the adoptive home.  For the first fifteen months of her life, she was caged and used as a breeder dog - no room to move around and no socialization between her and other dogs, with little socialization with humans. So the last 3.5 months have been her first experiences of being in a home and a family and learning the expectations of being a polite family member and having boundaries. Macy is a happy girl and wants to please - she just needs structure and guidance to be successful.  She is a very independent alpha and would do best as an only dog.  She has a high energy level that she needs help using, so maybe a home where her humans enjoy taking jogs or long walks, or maybe a home with older children who would like to play with her in a fenced back yard. She would do best with a securely fenced yard where you can take her out and let her run and play with you. She LOVES a Chuck-It ball and will play toss with you or just carry it around the yard and toss it herself. If she is bored, she will find something to do, and it may include chewing. Exploring things with her mouth is a passion of hers. If there's no Nylabone available, she'll find something else, like chair legs or plants or her food/water bowl have also been known to become airborne and a play toy.

phoebe

Adopted in MO and helping repair a whole left in her new mom's heart by her Poodle who recently left for the Rainbow Bridge! Phoebe is a shy little white poodle with grey ears, top of head, and a few grey patches on her back. She is about nine pounds and nine years old. Being part of a family in a home is new to her, but she's watching and learning from the other dogs here and doing a great job. She has a lovely soft coat - her picture doesn't do her justice! Do you have the patience to help Phoebe blossom into a wonderful companion and love bug?

rhyli

Adopted in MO and has a Cavalier brother and an Affenpinscher sister! Are you looking for a playful princess? Maybe Rhyli is the girl for you! She is a six year old red and white Shih- Tzu who has just completed her vetting. She is getting along with the other dogs here and is especially playful with the calm boys like Benjamin. Rhyli is doing well with her house training and is ready for her Forever Family to spot her and make her their little princess!

ruthie

Last foster for Bongo's Buddies Rescue to be adopted in 2016! Living with a new ShiPoo sister and her new parents in MO! This little Shih-Tzu is named Ruthie! She is blonde and white, weighs about 9.5 pounds, and she's eight years old. She is a little sweetheart! She is a little more timid than Rhyli, but she is getting along well with the other dogs here. She's enjoying running in our big fenced yard and exploring, and she's doing well with her house training. We're sure this little doll baby won't be here long!
